The Fish Refuge at Stibbington provides an ‘off flow’ haven for fish during Summer and Winter.
The inlet channel from the Nene has a tendency to silt up over over a number of Winters and this encourages weed and reed growth further slowing the flow and blocking the channel.
This year the management committee decided to invest funds and pay for it to be cleared it out as part of the maintenance program of the fishery. The flow through the refuge in summer is vital to keep weed growth down.
A local contractor was appointed to remove the silt from the channel and deposit the waste along the banks.
With more rain forecast in the next week or so the clear channel will hopefully flush the refuge out and encourage some fish into the les turbulent waters.
