And finally, we completed a full season of Club days at Deeping St James Angling Club. The fog took a while to clear with only a very light north easterly breeze. The recent daytime high temperatures coupled with cold overnight conditions meant the water hadn’t really warmed up much. Hopes were high with some good catches coming for pleasure anglers, but as soon as those nets hit the water the fish did their famous vanishing act.
Today was the fifth and final round of the Deeping Individual League series (DILS). The angler with the highest points total from any four rounds would claim the title. Also, in club tradition today was the last chance for silverware from the “Non Cup Winners Cup”.
Going into the last round only two Anglers were in contention for DILS, Steve Borrett and Ray Torrington. The luck of the draw bag would decide with Steve leading by just 3 points after 4 rounds. As it happened neither angler could better their lowest previous points tally and the top two places remained on the same points at the end of the day. Congratulations go to Steve Borrett for being the DILS champion 2021/22.
Winner on the day and the recipient of the Non Cup Winners Cup 2021/22 was Mike Moseley. Drawing the peg he pleasure fished the day before, peg 19, Mike didn’t even need to unclip his reel. Allowing him to be “setup and ready” in less than 10 minutes. Fishing his favourite pellet feeder method with 6mm hard pellet or wafter, casting to try and get under the far bank. Mike weighed in at 56 lbs 11 oz, but due to overfilling of his carp net by 4lb suffered a round down to 50lb for that net. But luckily still had enough of a lead over second place with his recorded total of 52 lb 11 oz.
Second on the day was Phil Price with 41 lb 6 oz. Once he realised the fish were grouped below the conifer and not half way up it. The cost of lost terminal tackle greatly reduced and Phil managed to land a steady stream of carp. Phil fished a Pellet feeder tight to the far bank from Peg 15.
Dave Marzell on peg number 8, took third place with 36 lb 14 oz. Fishing up against the winter reduced reedbed using bread on both the feeder and waggler.
Section wins for Jason Chatham and Neil Speechley.
