A warm sunny day today for the trip to Marshland St James and Buttonhole Lake.
Right from the minute we arrived we were greeted and looked after by the owner Chris. Cups of Tea and Coffee and freshly made Bacon rolls soon followed. If there was ever any book for how to do hospitality at a Fishery then Chris must have written it !
He even went through peg and bait selection giving us in depth knowledge of how his regulars fish the lake. Local rules of 40lb maximum per net were a little tricky for some of us to adjust to. But the list of fish caught was long including Carp, F1, Grass Carp, Chub, Tench, Roach and Perch. Only Barbel and Bream evaded us. Phil Price took his time landing a 12lb 8oz carp on the pole, but this was beaten by a 13lb 1oz specimen by Kevin Crompton.
It was the return of the Away Day Cup and the first name back on it will be Dave Preston. Dave finished with 132lb 11oz from Peg number 23 in the basin. Dave fished the worm over pellets to 13m on the pole.
Second Place was Kevin Crompton with 128lbs from peg number 19. Kevin fished both left and right margins with punched cat meat or worm over dead red maggots.
Third place by a margin of 6 oz (due to yours truly going over in one net ) was Ray Torrington. Ray finished with 85lb 2oz from Peg number 6. Ray fished 2+1 on the pole using cat meat and sweetcorn over 6mm pellets.
