It was a very warm October day with 23 degrees recorded and light wind conditions. 15 Anglers descended on the club’s Horseshoe lake for one last match of the year. It would be the third and final round of the Wade Cup. This cup was donated by Roland Wade who was the club solicitor, involved in the accumulation of shares for the Several Fisheries (The Welland through the Deepings), the solicitors then became part of a practice in Peterborough and held the Several Fisheries deeds for some time. The deeds are now lodged at the Land Registry and the solicitors are now no longer connected to the club. The Wade Cup is fished over three matches on Horseshoe lake with the highest aggregate weight.
Going into the last round, Antony Johnson led the way with his record 157lb haul from the first round. Unavailable for the last round, the rest of the field were still over 40lbs behind his single weight.
Also today, the anglers were competing for the Les Wiles Cup. Donated by a very committed club and committee member that lived in Peterborough until his death.
Overall Winner and new name on the Les Wiles Cup is Nathan Grech. Nathan fished the flyer, peg 15 and ended up with 94lbs 14oz. Despite several angling disasters through the day, Nathan fished the Hybrid Feeder across to the far corner with a pink Wafter.
Second Place went to Phil Price with 53lbs 15oz from peg number 31. Phil fished Dog biscuit in open water and Method Feeder to the floating islands.
Phil’s weight secured him the Wade Cup by just 15oz from Antony Johnson in second place.
Third place was Paul Barron with 46lb 9oz from the battle ground that is peg 35. Paul lost plenty of hooks but stuck with the Pellet Waggler and hard pellet. Paul also landed a nice specimen of 15lb 0oz.
