A somewhat quiet Decoy Lakes car park greeted the anglers, a sign of a drop in popularity of the venue maybe ? Those that were there braced themselves for a hot one with temperatures set to reach 27 degrees.
With only 14 anglers we spread ourselves across Yew lake. Plenty of fish were already in the upper layers and crashing around.
Fished at both Decoy and Kingsland Fisheries over 4 rounds, today was the final round of the Fenland Cup. Also today the anglers were competing in the Dennis Clarke Cup, a trophy donated to the club by Nobby Clarke who used to run a tackle shop in Deeping St James.
Taking all the glory on a very difficult day’s fishing was Peter Wray with 48lb from peg number 6. Pete fished Maggots in the margin and at 11m as well as paste on top 2 +2. Pete wins not only the Dennis Clarke Cup but also with his maximum 10 points he is this year’s Fenland Cup winner.
Second place to Phil Price with 43lb 2oz from peg number 18. Phil rotated his lines through the day using a method feeder, pellet waggler and pole.
Third Place to Paul Barron with 23lbs 9 oz from peg number 27. Paul stuck it out with his Hybrid feeder and pink wafter.
