10 Anglers descended on the club’s Horseshoe lake for one last lake match of the year. The weather forecast wasn’t looking good with plenty of rain and the potential for Storm Ashley to bring heavy winds across the UK.
A warm welcome to club member David Pike, who joined us for the first time. However, not such a warm welcome from Alan Thomas to the three Pike he managed to catch !
This was the third and final round of the Wade Cup. This cup was donated by Roland Wade who was the club solicitor, involved in the accumulation of shares for the Several Fisheries (The Welland through the Deepings), the solicitors then became part of a practice in Peterborough and held the Several Fisheries deeds for some time. The deeds are now lodged at the Land Registry and the solicitors are now no longer connected to the club. The Wade Cup is fished over three matches on Horseshoe lake with the highest aggregate weight.
Also today, the anglers were competing for the Les Wiles Trophy. Donated by a very committed club and committee member that lived in Peterborough until his death.
Winner on the Day of the Les Wiles Trophy for 2024 was Mick Wright with 77lbs 6 oz from Peg number 19. Mick fished a Hybrid feeder and Bomb line using 8mm Pellets at distance.
Second place by only 4oz was Stuart Baxter with 77lbs 2oz from Peg number 35. Stuart fished against the reeds on Pellet Waggler using dog biscuit. Whilst a narrow margin to lose on the day, Stuart is the 2024 winner of the Wade Cup finishing with a 20lb lead.
Third place was Jason Chatham with 48lbs 3oz from Peg number 15. Jason fished micros in both Hybrid and Method feeders using varying colours of Wafters.
