The long awaited return to the rivers kicked off with the Annual Remembrance Shield match. A two minute silence was held at 11am to acknowledge those that had served and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Fine and mild weather had set in since the end of September floods and the river had lost most of its colour. Fifteen anglers were in the hat hoping to get a peg in the prime “Teen” section that always fishes well. Mixed reports followed last weekend’s big catches with fish seeming to have spread out during the week. Last year’s Winner Trevor Walker was looking to match his form with another top haul !
Antony Johnson finished in prime spot from newly created peg 32 with 9lbs 10oz. Antony fished a 7m bolo rod with a 3 gram float, holding back 3/4 of the way across for the majority of his catch. Switching to a Caster and Worm line down the inside netted him a superb bonus Chub.
Second Place to Paul Dotchin with 6lbs 4oz from peg number 19. Paul fished Worm over chopped Worm and landed 2 excellent Perch.
Third Place to Derek Drover with 4lbs 7oz from peg number 17. Derek fished the long pole at 11-12m using maggots
Section Wins for Ray Torrington, Jason Chatham and Alan Thomas.
