A record turn out for the first match of the season on the clubs own Horseshoe lake with 20 Anglers checking in at the draw. The club welcomed in some new faces and first time match anglers to the evening match, so scheduled as normally the best time for the lake to produce good weights.
Plenty of fish were seen cruising on the surface pre-match and the weather conditions were dry and fairly fine with cloud cover and warm sun at times. Unfortunately, the fish had other ideas …. and from the start the going was tough !
Last years overall Wade Cup winner Antony Johnson found the long range pellet waggler to be the best approach and finished 1st with 57 lb 14 oz.
Fishing hard pellets from Peg 7 and casting to 3/4 of the way across to take an all carp net.
Second place fell to newcomer Ray Morland fishing the favoured peg 40 on the pole to the far bank, using hard pellet on the bottom he finished with 36 lb 13 oz
Third place to Ray Torrington on Peg 18 who fished a variety of methods and baits to weigh in 36 lb 3 oz, including a fine specimen of 14 lb 10 oz.
Section Wins for Stuart Baxter 27 lb 2 oz, Paul Sugarman 27 lb and Kevin Compton 20 lb 8 oz.
