Wind and rain greeted the anglers over at Kingsland Reservoir near Coates where DSJAC were competing for the Exeter Trophy, but the local cuckoo was doing its best to lift everyone’s spirit. Twelve lucky soles were given the special fathers day pass to allow them to fish on the Large Lake renowned for some great carp action.
Last year’s winner Graham Wright recalled his first Senior win of the Exeter Trophy, when he won it 44 years ago at Burghley House lake. Apparently, he was a young 16 year old fishing a senior match and getting his first senior match win with 19 lb – catching 7 Tench on the waggler, using 5 maggots on a size 12.
Sadly for Graham, Ray Torrington stole the show, with a fantastic catch of 172 lb 14 oz with cat meat using the float road in the margins on peg 5. Second was Ray’s opposition in the 2nd round of the individual knockout cup, Richard Bell. Richard, also using cat meat, pole fished the reeds all match in 2 feet of water to finish with 151 lb 4 oz. Graham Wright came third with 105 lb 4 oz fishing top 2 + 2 section on the pole on big lumps of paste in 6 feet of water.
