The cool Northerly breeze may have still been with us but at least there were clear blue skies in Pidley. Only eleven anglers made the trip to Rookery Waters to fish on the Canal style Raven Lake.
Today Nathan Grech would be defending his 2023 Doxam Rosebowl title. The original Doxam trophy was a stuffed fish in a case which was donated by Fred Doxam who used to live at The Mere in Deeping St James. This venue was often used by the club for Junior and Committee matches. The stuffed fish was sold on the internet and the proceeds used to buy the Rosebowl.
It was also the final day to be fishing the Second Round of the Individual Knockout Cup.
Drawing Peg number 2, one of the lake’s hot pegs Nathan retained his Doxam Crown. Finishing with 105lbs and 15oz, just 12oz ahead of second place. Fishing luncheon meat to the far bank and holding against the slope on the pole, with a short spell on the paste down the middle.
Second place to Ray Torrington finishing with 105lbs 3oz from peg number 9. Ray pole fished the bottom of the inside slope on cat meat, taking a few on the feeder as well.
Third place Jon Bowland with 79lbs 11oz from peg number 7. Jon, fishing his first club match for quite a few seasons, went with Casters shallow on the pole and chopped worm in the margin.
