The first Club Day of 2022 saw a big turnout on the Roadside Section of the River Welland in Deeping St James. With the river level dropping after the recent heavy rain there was still a bit of colour and flow. Low overnight temperatures following the recent mild spell, gave way to a bright, sunny and still day.
Seventeen anglers in all competing for the Several Fisheries Trophy. Not fished for in 2020-21 Season, but one of the Club’s Trophies last won by Ray Torrington in 2019-20 Season. Also for points in the Deeping Individual League Series (DILS) Round 2. DILS is based over 5 club days and is awarded to the angler with the best points total from four of the five matches.
It will be Ray Torrington who will get his name back on the Trophy this season with an impressive 5 lb 13 oz from Peg number 10. Fishing the same peg as a previous match in November, Ray opted for single pinkie over ground bait down the middle with better fish coming on this method from the far side.
Second Place to Paul Barron, who like Ray managed to draw the same peg as the previous match. Taking 4 lb 12 oz from peg number 7 using single and double fluro pinkie over hemp and castor.
Third Place to Graham Wright fishing peg number 8 with 4 lb 9 oz. Graham fished 5m whip all match with bread punch.
Section Wins for Trevor Walker (first match for many years – his words), Jason Chatham and Steve Borrett
